Many authors unknowingly submit manuscripts with typos and unclear messaging that affect readability and prevent books from reaching their full potential. Professional editing catches these costly mistakes, revealing your authentic voice and helping your book make the lasting impact it deserves.
You’ve worked on this book for too long to settle for a version you’re not 100% proud to share. It deserves to be the best it can be—free from those distracting errors that pull readers out of your message (we’ve seen every “there/their/they’re” mix-up you can imagine).
Our professional editing elevates your manuscript while preserving your unique voice and message. We position your book for success—with no strings attached and no obligation to publish through us.
You’ve completed your draft but need expert feedback on plot, structure, message clarity, or organization.
You’re overwhelmed by grammar rules and need someone to meticulously perfect your manuscript.

You’re considering traditional publishing and know a professionally edited manuscript dramatically increases your chances.
Your manuscript deserves personalized attention at every stage. Whether you need comprehensive developmental editing to strengthen your story’s foundation, precise line editing to enhance clarity and flow, or a final professional polish to eliminate distracting errors, we’re committed to your vision. At Branch & Vine Publishing, we don’t just edit—we partner with you, providing customized editing solutions that preserve your unique voice while elevating your work to its highest potential. Our clients consistently tell us our collaborative approach makes all the difference in their publishing journey.
Transform your story from good to unforgettable with a manuscript critique. Think of this as your manuscript’s big-picture assessment—a bird’s-eye view that reveals what’s working and what needs strengthening in your story.
This entry-level edit is perfect for writers who want professional insights before investing in more intensive editing. We’ll identify structural issues that might be holding your story back and provide the general guidance you need to move forward with confidence. This service is perfect for writers who want general guidance prior to more intensive editing.
What you’ll receive:
Editorial Memo briefly analyzing your manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as general recommendations to improve your writing in areas such as:
Character development
Point of view and perspective
Plot structure and themes
Overall consistency
Review Consultation (fifteen minutes) to discuss your edits, answer questions, and clarify next steps in your writing journey
Developmental Edit
Gain the comprehensive guidance needed to elevate your book from good to exceptional with a developmental edit. This in-depth edit examines critical elements of your manuscript, giving you not just feedback but a clear blueprint for impactful revisions and additions.
Unlike a manuscript critique, a developmental edit delivers detailed, actionable insights on both a macro- and micro-level. We’ll delve into what’s working and what needs strengthening to improve overall readability and impact at a greater level compared to a critique. This thorough analysis provides authors with meaningful direction for engaging readers, increasing clarity, and more. This service is ideal for authors who have completed a first draft and are ready to refine their manuscript prior to line and/or copy editing.
What you’ll receive:
Comprehensive Editorial Letter with in-depth analysis of elements like:
Themes and core messaging
Character development and dialogue
Point of view, pacing, and plot
Genre expectations and audience engagement
Annotated Manuscript with comments highlighting areas for improvement, including examples of passages that can be strengthened
Review Consultation (fifteen minutes) to discuss revision strategies and answer your questions
A line edit is all about ensuring that your book’s wording isn’t just correct but truly effective in telling your story. We focus less on grammar (though it’s still a factor) and more on how the wording used communicates your story to readers. Working at the sentence and paragraph level, we’ll elevate your voice so your story stands out in today’s competitive landscape. Our goal is to make your writing more effective and distinctive while respecting your unique voice and style.
We’ll address elements like:
Words or sentences that are extraneous or overused
Run-on sentences that diminish impact
Redundancies (repeating the same information in different ways)
Dialogue or paragraphs that can be tightened for better pacing
Scenes where the action is confusing or meaning is unclear
Tonal shifts and unnatural phrasing or transitions
Confusing narrative digressions
In the margins, we’ll suggest ways to clarify or enhance at the individual sentence level while providing advice for improving pacing and transitions. Our approach combines creative insight with technical precision, ensuring every line contributes to your story’s impact and readability. Consistency, clarity, and flow are the major factors of this edit.
Our Collaborative Process: After you’ve reviewed our edits—revising sections based on our suggestions and responding to our comments—we’ll go back to revise those areas of rewritten text (not the entire manuscript).
What you’ll receive:
Annotated Manuscript (Microsoft Word document) with suggested inline edits via Track Changes and comments
Secondary Review of rewritten sections and/or replies to additional comments from the first round
Edited Manuscript (Microsoft Word document) after secondary review with all edits in the annotated version implemented
Custom B&V Style Sheet listing your specific preferences on style, spelling, names, locations, translations, and more
Personalized Video Consultation (15 minutes) to discuss the edits and answer any questions
Copy Edit
A copy edit (single round) follows a line edit—which prioritizes content, word choice, and consistency above editing grammar—since it is the perfect chance to polish your manuscript prior to interior formatting. Some consider this as a high-end proofread.
We’ll address elements like:
Spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax
Consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numerals, fonts, and capitalization
Ambiguous or factually incorrect statements (especially important for non-fiction)
Continuity errors and loose ends
Macro-concerns like internal consistency (plot, setting, or character discrepancies)
What you’ll receive:
Annotated Manuscript (Microsoft Word document) with suggested edits via Track Changes
Edited Manuscript (Microsoft Word document) with all edits in the annotated version implemented
Review Consultation (fifteen minutes) to discuss revision strategies and answer your questions
Proofread
Ready to share your story with the world? Following interior formatting (Psst, we offer formatting in all of our publishing packages), a proofreader checks the digital copy (a.k.a. “the proof”) for quality before the book goes into production.
Proofreading compares the manuscript to the proof, ensuring there are no omissions or missing pages. We also look out for any awkward word or page breaks. Light editing may be included (i.e., correcting inconsistent spelling or hyphenations), but it will be done so sparingly, as grammatical editing is the focus of other edits.
What you’ll receive:
Polished Manuscript (PDF of initial document) of your manuscript with any comments for revisions or changes. Note: Unless B&V is involved in the interior formatting of your manuscript, edits will need to be implemented by your interior formatter.

With our comprehensive editing approach, you can release your book knowing it represents your very best work. No more worrying about embarrassing errors, inconsistencies, or unclear messaging. Send your polished manuscript into the world and wait with expectation for how the Lord will use your story to change lives!
This is a hard one to answer because each book is different. Depending on your familiarity with grammar and writing, some books require more editing than others.
To ensure the best quality, we always recommend at a minimum line editing, copy editing, and proofreading.
If content is an issue, we also recommend developmental editing.
However, we understand that budgets and timelines can influence which options are best for individual projects. In order to give a more comprehensive answer, please sign up for a free discovery call where we can discuss the specifics of your book.
The editing timeline (much like writing) differs for each project. To determine this, we’ll need to know what services you’re interested in, assess our editing calendar, and (if we’re talking multiple services) know how quickly you can turn around suggestions and edits.
On average, each round of editing has an estimated turnaround of two to five weeks. However, we will provide a more concrete timeline once we’ve learned more about your project and booked you in our editing calendar.
If you have specific time constraints, we can offer rush turnaround services for an additional fee.
To learn more, please schedule a free discovery call.
As with anything we do at Branch & Vine Publishing, we actively partner with our authors! While there isn’t anything expected of you while we’re doing the actual editing, you should expect to receive feedback (usually in the form of comments) and suggested edits (with the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word).
After our portion of the service is complete (and especially if we have another service scheduled), we expect that you’ll promptly review and respond to all comments and suggestions.
If you have additional questions or responses to comments/suggestions we left for you, you can send our way or send them ahead of time for us to discuss during our 15-minute debrief call at the end of each session (included with all services except proofreading).
Please note that responding to edits and suggestions is the responsibility of the author, not the editor assigned to your service.
The short answer: no. Being à la carte, you can add services whenever you’d like. For example, if you work with us for developmental edits and come back a month or two later desiring line edits, we can absolutely add that on!
However, please be aware that our editing calendar can get booked out. This means that if you only committed to developmental edits, we may not have an opening for line edits until months later. When clients book editing with us, we space out accordingly to ensure each manuscript gets the time and attention necessary. If timing isn’t an issue, then this is a great way to work through edits at your own pace.
If timing is important to you and you know you’d like to receive specific types of edits with us in the future, you can pay a non-refundable deposit to lock in a time in our calendar. This guarantees you’re in our calendar without paying for services you haven’t yet started.
There are three parts to this answer:
(1) Referencing back to the question above, all our editing services are independent of one another. Being à la carte, you can purchase one service at a time whenever you need. However, please keep in mind that our editing calendar does fill up!
(2) If booking multiple services at once, please note that you’ll be required to either pay in full or enroll in a payment plan for the editing currently taking place.
(3) For the additional future services, you’ll need to pay a non-refundable deposit to be put onto our editing calendar. This deposit is determined by the base rate of the editing service chosen and the manuscript’s word count. To learn more specifics on deposits, please contact us to receive a project estimate.
